Who are you?
I am Bill Garrett of WB Garrett, Inc and have been building in Richmond since the late 1980’s.
Where do you build?
I have built in most areas of the metro but for a current list, it can be found here…
Describe your typical home and who you work best with?
I am not sure that I have a ‘typical’ home but if there was a common thread I would say that I build homes that are considered to be high quality and more upscale. We are not a production or volume builder and when we build a home, it is built with materials that are best in class. I sleep well at night for that very reason.
Why do you like home building?
The idea that a well built home can be a place that will see a family through a large part of their life still amazes me. I tried to count how many houses and people that we have been able to shelter in some way and it was like 20,000 or so by some estimates….I think that is powerful.
How do you differentiate yourself?
I would say that our process defines us best. When you deal with us, you deal with ownership (me) and not with a production manager or customer service representative. It is a Richmond way of doing business and it starts with me and is the prevailing attitude of my subcontractors and vendors. It is just the right way to do things.
What does the future of homebuilding hold?
I think that is the big unknown. The market has been reinventing itself since the meltdown in 2008 and it feels like the new normal will involve more of a ‘less is more’ attitude….but we are Americans and we like big houses. Time will tell.
Anything else?
Ask about the warranty on the home and do research. It will tell you everything you need to know about your builder.
