Powhatan County is located on the western side of Richmond south of the James River and abuts Chesterfield to the West. It is accessed via Route 288 along its eastern edge, Route 60 (Midlothian Turnpike) and Route 711 (Robious Road/Huguenot Trail).
Powhatan is considered to be a rural county with larger lot subdivisions and homes on large acre parcels with the higher value homes along the Robious Road/Huguenot Trail corridor and along the River.
Along the Chesterfield border, Route 288 has created tremendous development pressure, especially at the intersection with Route 60 at the Watkins Landing tract.
New home subdivisions in the area include Greywalls (home of the high end Foundry Golf Club), Aston and Walnut Creek.
